4 Easy Ways To Refresh Your Space

Now that the holiday decorations have been put away. Well maybe some of us are still holding on through the winter months. Ma, I’m talking to you LOL! You may feel the urge to refresh your space. Taking down all of the glitz and glam may have left your space feeling not so magical, warm, or inviting. Don’t fear dears, I am here (Superman stance) to share my 4 tried and true tips to refresh your space with little to no effort and /or commitment.

Paint

Refreshing the walls or pieces in your space with a can of paint gives you the most change with little effort and financial impact. Check out my blog post about my recent love affair with a can of spray paint here. Color play a very important role in spaces. It can sway thinking, change actions, and cause reactions. It can also irritate or soothe your eyes, raise your blood pressure or suppress your appetite.

Now don’t allow those facts scare you. Just go for the colors that gives you the vibe you are trying to achieve in the space. If you don’t like it, then just paint over it with a new choice. This is why I love paint. When you decide to change paint colors, you don’t have to worry about what to do with the old color. Unlike furniture, but I digress.

Accessorize

The only thing that separates us from the animals is our ability to accessorize.
— Clairee, from the film "Steel Magnolias"

Being all matchy matchy with your decor is played.  As played as using the word played in that sentence LOL.  Go for accessories that make you happy, comfortable and ENHANCES your current decor.  No need to change the entire room to incorporate your favorite decor trend.

If you live for boho chic, then just add some cool bohemian pillows, or candle holders.  You will be living your best life in no time.

If you want your space to have a global vibe, then add some elements that are representative of the parts of the world that you love.  You can do this with statues, pieces of architecture, or even textiles (rugs, drapes, etc.) representative of those places and cultures.    Not sure when you will be able to take that dream trip to Bali, then dahling (Edna Mode voice) bring Bali to your space.

If you are Mary or Harry with a little glam, then go for accessories that are shiny, metallic, and maybe covered in bling. Did I just date myself again by using bling?

There are so many fun trends today to incorporate in your spaces.

Rearrange

So maybe you love your decor, but your space is feeling blah or it doesn’t flow.  Then rearrange what you’ve got.  I do this often…..even in houses that are not mine…..while they are away…..they still love me though…..and they were happy with my remix to their classic LOL.  You can rearrange things as small as trinkets to as large as furniture.  Any change can trick your brain into feeling like you got a new room.  Just make sure to measure your space before moving your large / heavy pieces to ensure they will fit in their new location.

Organize

This is one of my favorite ways to refresh a space especially when combined with Tip # 4.  I may have OCD tendencies (have not been diagnosed) but I love for everything to have a place and have a place for everything.  I am not saying it must stay there, but it better return to that spot LOL.

You can organize your books on your shelves by colors (spine of book), genre, height, size, or whatever makes your heart happy.

Incorporate organizing solutions in your space to eliminate or hide clutter.  Baskets are a great solution for they come in all different styles and price points and they can store just about anything.  Baskets with lids have recently became my go to solution in my home for it literally hides the stuff I don’t want to see.  They can be used as laundry hampers, store your blu-rays, small workout equipment, extra linens, art & school supplies, spices, condiments, you name it.
